BASHPA SWEDA

Bashpa Sweda (Herbal Steam)

Description

Bashpa Sweda is a classic Ayurvedic sudation therapy where a person sits inside a steam chamber filled with medicinal herb-infused vapor. 'Bashpa' means steam and 'Sweda' means sweat. This full-body steam bath is designed to induce a deep sweat, which is a natural and highly effective method of purification.

At Ojani Ayurveda Wellness Center, Bashpa Sweda is an integral part of our Kerala detoxification treatments. Under Dr. Reethu's guidance, we use a customized blend of herbs suited to your body type and condition. The therapy opens up the pores and "srotas" (body channels), helping to dislodge and eliminate deep-seated toxins. It is typically performed after an oil massage (Abhyanga) to enhance detoxification and relaxation.

FAQS
Frequently Asked Questions
According to Ayurveda, the head and eyes should be protected from excessive heat. Keeping the head cool while the body is heated prevents overheating and ensures the therapy is both safe and pleasant.
Bashpa Sweda is beneficial for most people, but it is not recommended for pregnant women, individuals with high blood pressure, heart conditions, or those feeling very weak. A consultation with Dr. Reethu is essential.
The duration depends on your individual constitution and condition, but a typical session lasts between 10 to 20 minutes, or until sufficient sweating is achieved.
After the therapy, you will feel remarkably light, clean, and relaxed. Your skin will feel soft and supple, and any muscle stiffness or pain will be significantly reduced.
While it can be done, it is most effective when preceded by an Abhyanga (oil massage). The oil application helps to loosen toxins within the tissues, and the subsequent steam helps to expel them from the body.
